South Carolina Festival of Flowers
History

Satchel PaigeThe first Festival of Flowers was held in July 1968. The Festival was the brainchild of what was known at that time as the Tourist and Convention Committee of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce. Committee members recognized that Park Seed Company hosted ‘grower days’ each year and that hundreds of professional flower growers came to Greenwood to meander through Park Seeds famous trial gardens. The rest is history.

Judy FunderburkChamber Director, Al Parker, thought it would be a good idea to capitalize on the idea of having those visitors see other things in Greenwood, including trial gardens, private home tours and an art show. Mr. Dick Stowe served as the first Festival Chairman, and Miss Judy Funderburk of Bennettsville was crowned, Princess of Flowers. Since then, the Festival has grown to include a wide array of activities.
