Blooms and Beauties on Display at The Museum

June is here and that means it’s time for the South Carolina Festival of Flowers. In celebration of this year’s festival, The Museum is hosting the exhibit “Blooms and Beauties” through July 4.

The exhibit contains original SC Festival of Flowers programs that highlight the Pageant Queens, as well as many originals and reprints of Festival Artwork. According to The Museum’s Executive Director, Matt Edwards, “this is a great way to look back on some of the traditions that have made the festival community favorite or over forty years.”

The pageant was a staple of the festival of flowers through its first twenty years, but was discontinued in 1989. The original artwork competition, on the other hand, was launched in 1984 and continues to be a popular festival tradition.

Edwards adds, “we see this as a launching point for future exhibits about the festival. We were only able to locate about a dozen of the art pieces, and we’d like to eventually be able to display all of the originals during the festival.”
