The South Carolina Festival of Flowers announced, Adam Quarles, a native of Greenwood, as the 2013 Official Poster Artwork Competition winner. His artwork titled, “The Festival,” stood out among the many entries for closely illustrating the guidelines set by the festival in the competition application. Artists were asked to submit artwork with a festival theme relating to the many facets of the annual event: Flowers, Topiaries, Fun, Sports, Art, Music, Culture, Family Activities and Gardens. A use of bold colors was suggested along with the dimensions of 24 inches horizontal by 18 inches vertical. Artists submitted their work and each was judged independently with the judges having no knowledge of the names of the artists. “The distinct, bright colors with the dominating sun over the many symbols that make up the Festival are what made Quarles’ work stand out and be selected,” stated Ellesor Holder, Executive Director. “It is edgy with a very bold and fun, contemporary look.”
Adam Quarles, 22, grew up in Greenwood and now lives in North Myrtle Beach, SC. He created the artwork using paint pens. In addition to his artwork being the 2013 SC Festival of Flowers poster, it will be on the T-shirts as well. Quarles will receive $1000 for the winning entry and he will attend several festival events during June signing the posters for purchase.
