The Center was established to preserve the history of railroading in Greenwood County and the surrounding region. The first trains came through the unincorporated village of Greenwood in 1852.

Rolling stock at the Railroad Historical Center includes:

1906 Steam Engine
Three cars from the Piedmont & Northern Line
American Liberty- a Sleeper built in 1942 by Pullman Standard
Dining Car number 746 built for the Delaware,
Lackawana and Western Railroad in the 1920’s and a Seventy-six seat coach from 1937.
