Beginning in June 2008, the South Carolina Festival of Flowers will host Safari, a Topiary Flower Display based on Walt Disney World’s “Festival of Flowers showcased each year in Epcot.
The Topiaries will be on display around the Square in Uptown Greenwood during the month of June.
These Topiaries will incorporate a safari theme with animal topiaries and objects relating to a safari and also feature topiaries that are unique to Greenwood.
We are starting with 16 topiaries that will be used annually to showcase our Uptown area. The proposed topiaries include: giraffe, lion, hanging monkey, alligator, elephant, safari jeep, Fuji Quick snap camera, butterfly, dinosaur, and a gorilla. We will also display a water feature in the fountain located in Uptown Greenwood. The proposed topiaries include: flamingo, sea horse, elephant, swan, frog, and a dolphin.
The objective of this event is to provide a signature event for the Festival of Flowers to enhance tourism in Uptown Greenwood and to provide an event that our local community would benefit from as well. This event would bring tourist to Greenwood during the entire month on June. Tourist traveling to Greenwood to view this topiary flower display would make an economic impact for Greenwood.
The topiaries would add a new dimension to the renovations already underway in Uptown Greenwood. Organizations that have agreed to facilitate this event include: Uptown Greenwood, Department of Transportation, CPW, and The Greenwood Regional Visitors and Tourism Bureau, Piedmont Technical College, Lakelands Master Gardeners, and Lander University.
With the help of the Greenwood Community, we can make the topiary flower display one of the main summer tourist attractions during the S.C. Festival of Flowers.
